Online Anti-Vuvuzela Movement Taking Off

If the sound of keyboards typing their disdain towards the vuvuzela could be brought together collectively, then there is a chance it might drown out the much-despised noise emanating from South African soccer stadiums.

As of 11 am Eastern time this morning, a Facebook page named “IFA- BAN THE ANNOYINGc(HORN) FROM THE SOUTH AFRICA WORLD CUP !” has accumulated a total of 124, 570 likes. Hundreds of Facebookers are signing on to the page every minute. Pages in French and Portuguese have also garnered an impressive number of likes in a short period.

Meanwhile, an Internet anti-vuvuzela petition is collecting signatures. And, for those who prefer to confine their animosity to the buzzing horn to less than 140 characters, there is this Twitter page.
