Liechtenstein Techies Remember Dot.Li Glory Days
VADUZ â Leaders from Liechtensteinâs technological heyday â all five of them â gathered this week to recall the times when their high-flying dot.li companies were the talk of the Vaduz Stock Exchange.
"For a while there we had the whole online domestic animal food market for Liechtenstein to ourselves. I still canât understand what went wrong," said Hans Schroeder, the former president and CEO of Pets.li.
It is a refrain often heard throughout the entire Liechtenstein tech community these days. Companies from eYada.li, Liechtensteinâs only Internet sports and radio station, to its much-heralded online grocer, Webvan.li, have disintegrated -- their total value no more than a cup of coffee and a bratwurst.
"If it were not for Liechtensteinâs thriving online porn industry, there would be no hope," said Henry Fudgeit, an analyst covering Liechtenstein tech market.
Nevertheless, Fudgeit has not thrown in the towel altogether on the once mighty Internet companies of Liechtenstein and notes that he still remains bullish despite irrefutable evidence that would prove otherwise.
"I sincerely believe that the dot.li powerhouses should recover around the time the Liechtenstein national soccer team wins the World Cup," proclaimed Fudgeit.
