Fans Honor The âKing Of Klezmerâ
Tens of thousands of fans flocked to Miami Beach this week to pay tribute to Elkin Pressman, the man many will always regard as the "King of Klezmer."
Pressmanâs premature death due to an overdose of potato latkes 25 years ago shocked a nation of klezmer lovers.
Still his famous songs, including such hits as "Love Me Tenderloin," "Donât Be Such A Kvetch" and his classic "Iâm All Shook Up, Iâve Got A Headache, And My Sonâs A Schnorer," live on in the memories of his legions of admirers.
"He was the greatest," said Ichiro Goldberg, who flew in from Japan especially for the occasion, and to enter a hot dog eating contest.
Throughout the week throngs of devoted fans have camped outside his Schmaltzland mansion, signs announcing specials on pastrami and pickles have been flown at half-staff and thousands of canasta games have observed a moment of silence.
