‘Hamlet’: A New Work by Stephen Ambrose and Doris Kearns Goodwin

The publishing world is abuzz today with reports that historians Stephen Ambrose and Doris Kearns Goodwin have agreed to write a new work together.

The work, rumored to be entitled "Hamlet," concerns a legendary Danish prince who is reluctant or unready to avenge his father’s murder. In a departure from the usual format for a historical book, the joint effort will be produced in five acts.

Ambrose, who is reportedly suffering from back problems after lifting tons of material in recent months, is overjoyed by the prospects of receiving Goodwin’s help.

"I’ll be a monkey’s uncle. If that doesn’t beat all. I was between a rock and a hard place. If the shoe fits, wear it. This is the icing on the cake," said Ambrose at a news conference introducing the historical writing duo.

Ambrose had previously been torn between writing "Hamlet" and a couple of other choices that included "Gone with the Wind," a story about the American South during the Civil War, and "The Odyssey," an epic tale of ancient adventure.

In an additional breakthrough, postdocme.net has learned that Senator Joseph Biden, Democrat of Delaware, has signed on to write the introduction to the new work.
