Saddam Calls For Early Elections in 2040

Under intense international pressure to reform what is seen as an oppressive and dictatorial regime, Iraqi strongman Saddam Hussein is set to call early elections in the spring of 2040.

The move, viewed in Iraq as a capitulation to outside opinion, surprised many longtime Iraqi observers who had thought 2062 to be the likely date.

Nevertheless, as with all things that have ever happened throughout the history of the planet, political commentators had an immediate explanation for the turn of events -- which of course completely backed their previous predictions.

"It looks like Saddam has deliberately chosen a date meant to coincide with the time the Democrats plan to finish their hearings on the Enron scandal… just as I said things would happen," opined Iraqi pundit Tucker bin Carlson in the al-Des Moines Register newspaper.
