QUESTION OF THE DAY
How Come My Porn Site Failed When Everyone Else's Succeeded?

There must be at least 700 million porn sites out there in this great virtual galaxy known as the Internet. Of those, 699,999,999 have managed to be successful. Only one has managed to fail. Mine. How could it have happened?

I was full of high hopes when I started Bob W Johnson's Acres of Porn Emporium (http://www.bobwjohnson.com) out of the basement of my Gary, Indiana home back in 1999, right in the middle of what we now look back on as the Internet porn boom.

My friends kept telling me, “Bob, there's a market out there for fat, balding guys in their 40s. Just give it a chance.”

Boy, were they ever wrong. How could anyone have ever been more mistaken?

Despite all the special enticements I offered, such as shower pics, outdoor shots and even close ups, not one visitor to my site ever bothered to sign up for an exclusive $29.99 a month membership, not to mention the special $199.99 deal if they signed up for the whole year.

I even offered to throw in authographed underwear and a live 24-hour camera into my bedroom. And still all I got was zilch.

I guess it just goes to show that there is no such thing as a sure thing. I'll never know the exact reasons behind my doomed porn venture, but that is something I am going to have to live with.

Instead of buying my own house in Malibu with two Jaguars parked outside, I am back to being Bob W. Johnson, mild-manner insurance agent and the biggest failure in the history of the online porn industry.
