You, Me & Dupree
Owen Wilson stars as Randy Dupree, the underachieving, slob best
friend of Carl Peterson (Matt Dillon). Soon after his marriage to bombshell
Molly (Kate Hudson), Carl learns that Dupree has been evicted and has no
place to stay. After some resistance from Molly, Dupree moves in and calamity
ensues. From hosting “guy’s night” in the living room to setting the house on fire,
Dupree’s antics begin to put strain on Molly and Carl’s relationship. In the end,
it is up to Dupree to clean up all of the various messes he has made, not the least
of which is his best friend’s marriage.
to its colorful cast. Though Hudson’s comedic moments get a bit short-changed, both
Dillon and certainly Wilson are frat-boy funny and full of energy. Michael Douglas
even shows up as Molly’s over-protective father (a la Meet the Parents) to add a few
more laughs (and a little additional star power never hurts either). Though it’s not
exactly a thinking-man’s comedy and none of the actors are likely to get Oscar nods for
this one, You, Me and Dupree is a totally enjoyable 108 minutes. Especially
if you think shots
to the groin are funny. And who doesn’t?
