“Zombie” Satellite Prepares to Eat Cable Television

It could be considered “The Death Star” depending on how addicted to cable television you are. Back in April, a solar storm “fried” a communications satellite named Galaxy 15, causing it to “go rogue” and lose communications with ground control.

While the Intelsat owned satellite lost communications with the ground it did NOT turn off or lose its ability to receive, amplify and redirect signals, such as cable television, which presents a problem. Nicknamed a “zombie satellite” by industry engineers, Galaxy 15 has the potential to snag “C-band” signals intended for other satellites and redistribute them to…well, who knows where.

[an error occurred while processing this directive][an error occurred while processing this directive] So what does this mean to you? If you are a cable television consumer in the U.S., you might be in for a two week period of interference as Galaxy 15 moves in front of another satellite named AMC-11. And guess what…it operates on C-band also. The potential high-jacking is scheduled to begin on May 23rd and persist for about two weeks. Incidentally, this coincides with the date of the LOST finale and all the festivities surrounding that event, including advertising rates rivaling those of the Superbowl!

So, is this merely a satellite malfunction or alien interference to protect the secrets of the universe? Could it be “Fringe” radicals highjacking the LOST finale to their parallel reality? Maybe the Smoke Monster really did get off the Island…and he hates cable. You be the judge. And stay tuned, while you still can.
