Somehow we neglected to mention the Swamp Soccer World Cup, which was held in the mucky fields of Hyrynsalmi, Finland this July. Close to 1,200 players from 117 teams took part. Finland, as fans of unusual sporting events are no doubt aware, is also home to the world championships of wife carrying, mobile phone throwing and air guitar playing.If you feel you missed out on your chance to participate in the dirtiest sport imaginable, have no worries: the 2012 Swamp Soccer World Cup is only nine months away.

With the 2012 London Olympics a year minus a day away, Daddy David Beckham comes in at 12/1 to light the opening flame, according to Paddy Power. Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, are 40/1 to do the same at Ladbrokes, The Express reports.
