Reds 25th Anniversary Special Collector’s Edition

Paramount Home Entertainment is marking the 25th anniversary of
Reds, the movie that propelled Warren Beatty, Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson to even greater heights of stardom with a first-time ever DVD of the film.

When it first came out The New York Times described Mr Beatty’s work thusly: “(A) remarkably rich, romantic film that dramatizes – in a way that no other commercial movie in my memory has ever done – the excitement of being young, idealistic and foolish in a time when everything still seemed possible.”

Reds tells the story of the love affair between activists Louise Bryant (Keaton) and John Reed (Beatty). Set against the backdrop of the tumultuous start of the twentieth century, the two journalists’ on-again off-again romance is punctuated by the outbreak of World War I and the Bolshevik Revolution.

Beatty won best director for the film and Reds was nominated for 12 Academy Awards overall. The film also includes great performances by Maureen Stapleton and Gene Hackman.

The two-disc set, Beatty’s first DVD, contains various featurettes and documentaries that are also of interest.
