Swamp Soccer World Cup: Another Sporting Event Which May Have Escaped Your Attention This Summer
A couple of weeks ago we listed 10 summer sporting events which you probably did not read about in your local newspaper. Somehow we neglected to mention the Swamp Soccer World Cup, which was held in the mucky fields of Hyrynsalmi, Finland this July. Close to 1,200 players from 117 teams took part. Finland, as fans of unusual sporting events are no doubt aware, is also home to the world championships of wife carrying, mobile phone throwing and air guitar playing.If you feel you missed out on your chance to participate in the dirtiest sport imaginable, have no worries: the 2012 Swamp Soccer World Cup is only nine months away.
