During the early morning hours in Borras, Norway, people saw a strange phenomena in the sky: a spinning, luminescent spiral with a green beam of light rising from the horizon and intersecting the center. Personally, I was excited when I heard the news, thinking that the aliens were finally going to show us their Mothership in a big way. You have to admit a 50 square mile ship exiting that portal would have been be cool. But, after pondering the possible nature of the aliens in possession of such hyperspace technology (LoveCraftian creatures just freak me out), my excitement took a detour to panic.

But, not to worry. While the source hasn’t yet been positively identified, some strongly suspect it was the Russians and an errant rocket launch. Well, thanks for bursting my bubble…that is unless the Russians have developed secret technology to open portals to other dimensions. Naw, it’s probably just a rocket, but see for yourself. And for all you Lovecraft fans out there, it doesn’t appear that Cthulhu is coming to dinner. This time.

In case you missed it, a string of interesting occurrences in Colorado probably tops the plot lines of at least half a dozen television shows (especially this season). It started just after midnight of 18 November, when a fast moving fireball “turned night into day” over Colorado and Utah. Even though the object was visible in at least 8 states, I remained unimpressed. After all, turning night into day is such an overused gimmick. Turning day into night is a much better trick. Early the next morning, a strange, electric-blue and glowing swirl of clouds was observed over Colorado. Initially unidentified and not immediately connected to the previous night’s event, the two events were finally correlated. This made me wonder why it took so long: not only for scientists to make the obvious connection, and why it took so long for the asteroid debris to clear. A little more than a week later, a size 14 space boot hit the floor in the form of one of the oldest of UFO related mysteries: cattle mutilations. While I won’t go into my own personal theory on cattle mutilations (let’s just say it involves teen-aged, alien pranksters and their version of “cow tipping”), the coincidence of occurrence (and location) does provide food for thought and imagination.
