You’ve heard about the Swiss franc. How about the blue franc? A group of winemakers in the Hungarian town of Sopron are set to launch their own currency on May 4 in an effort to boost local trade.

The new currency will trade on par with the Hungary’s national currency, the forint, and will be accepted at a handful of businesses in Sopron – each marked on the outside with a sticker.

The currency’s name is derived from the regional vintage named “blue franc” (kekfrankos in Hungarian, blaufrankish in German).

Notable historical figures will appear on various dominations of the currency. Joseph Haydn, for example, is featured on the 10,000 blue franc note, while Franz Liszt is on the 20,000 bill.
