Soon afterwards, a sleazy lawyer Gil (Miguel Sandoval) and his trio of bimbos get wind of this
holy tortilla, and exploit the townspeople further. Out of nowhere, an inconceivable subplot develops
in which a woman named Petra (Olivia Hussey) needs to be naked at all times. Petra's daughter Dinora
(Judy Herrera) is involved with Isidor's son Marco (Alexis Cruz). Petra gets Marco a scholarship
so he can pursue his dreams in marine biology. Instead of being happy for his son, Isidor
becomes angry, reports Petra to the authorities as a witch, so the townspeople throw the
daughter Dinora in jail. Meanwhile conflict ensues, almost endlessly it
seems, as the townspeople get angrier and angrier with Isidor in regards to the ownership
and usage of this holy tortilla.
Tortilla Heaven has the outline of what could have been a truly good comedy. However, the writing is somewhat
lacking and never allows the film to be all that it can be. Too often
it gets the urge to explain to the audience why a particular scene is funny.
In the end it left me hungry.
