Jeff Bridges in Stick It
The Big Lebowski as a legendary Olympic gymnast? You might be incredulous,
but Jeff Bridges does a most credible job
in Stick It.
Haley Graham (Missy Peregrym) is a talented young gymnast who, like many athletes that
are pushed too hard during their formative years, becomes a rebellious
and delinquent adolescent.
Finally, after several brushes with the law, Haley's dad decides to
enroll her in the prestigious VGA gymnastics academy in Houston, run by Burt
Vickerman (Bridges), the former Olympic great.
Things are not so rosy for Haley at the beginning. Her fellow students are still
irked by her for dropping out of a competition and ultimately costing them a medal.
But Haley is no pushover. And Burt sees in her the potential to redeem herself
at the upcoming Gymnastics Nationals despite the animosity those in the game bear
towards here.
The film carries uplifting messages that are so often lacking in films directed
at or about teens -that you can come back from setbacks and the importance
of believing in oneself.
