As Bill Maher has claimed, Americans are in love with George W. Bush for the same reasons women fall for jerks. Jerks display confidence, and Democrats do not.

Dave Massey (Matthew Mabe) is overly fond of Bush as well in Conventioneers. An ardent backer of the administration, he sojourns to Manhattan from his home in Texas as a delegate for the 2004 Republican Convention.

Once there he checks in on an old college flame, Lea Jones (Woodwyn Koons), a liberal activist intent on protesting the convention, the war, and the million and one other plagues brought to the country courtesy of Bush/Cheney.

Friends and colleagues look on in bemusement at Lea who finds, in this case, that mixing personal and political interests can indeed prove flammable.

Added to this fiery mix is the subplot of Dylan Murtaugh (Alek Friedman), one of Lea's progressive colleagues, who must reassess his own commitments after he is signed on to be a sign language interpreter for Bush during the convention. (Friedman actually served as the President's ASL interpreter and all footage of him at the convention is authentic.)

Part fiction, part documentary the film creates a credible scenario of a conflict which surely must exist to greater and lesser degrees in millions of American homes during the current political divide that afflicts the country.
