Hard Candy
Things aren't entirely as they may appear to be on the surface in Hard Candy. Not all 14-year-old girls are innocent of the ways of the world. Indeed, some are pretty darn savvy.
Such is Ellen Page who plays Hayley, the early adolescent female who gets to chatting on the Internet with Jeff, a 30ish fashion photographer. As they get more familiar they agree to meet, and before you know it she is mixing drinks and appearing in suggestive "artistic" photos.
Yet as we mentioned, Hayley is not naive and is all too fully aware of her feminine powers. Things start to get thrilling as she begins to look into Jeff's past and what he may be hiding.
What keeps the film going is the powerful performances by the two leads.
Bonus features on the DVD a section called "Controversial Confectionâ which relates to the controversy of the subject matter and the difficulties in trying to get the film made and "Creating Hard Candy" which is about how the film was made.
