From the Big Apple to the Big Easy
LISTEN TO IRMA THOMAS
LISTEN TO LENNY KRAVITZ
LISTEN TO THE NEVILLE BROTHERS
On September 20, 2005 some of the biggest names from New Orleans and around the country got together in
Madison Square Garden for an unforgettable musical evening. The proceeds at that time raised more than
$9 million in relief for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and now the DVD release hopes to add to that total.
All of the net proceeds from the sale of this DVD will continue to raise money and awareness for those victims.
More than anything the DVD showcases how much New Orleans means to American culture, and particularly American
musical culture through its many, many styles and wonderful artists.
The music featured on the two-DVD set is an eclectic mix: Allen Toussaint, Bette Midler,
Buckwheat Zydeco, Cyndi Lauper, Dave Bartholomew, Diana Krall, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band,
Elton John, Elvis Costello, Irma Tomas, Jimmy Buffett, John Fogerty, Lenny Kravitz, the Meters,
the Neville Brothers, Ry Cooder, Simon & Garfunkel.
Some of the artists included are not as well known as they should be. Yet, if there is a
glimmer of light in the horrible tragedy that befell New Orleans last year, it is that greatness
of the city's musical heritage might reach ears it would not have before Katrina.
