United 93
VIEW THE EXLUSIVE UNITED 93 CLIP
Five years ago I came charging into the living room after getting word on the Internet that the first plane had hit the World Trade Center.
Little did we know at the time about the drama that would unfold in the air onboard United Flight 93.
In the run-up to its release there was a lot of talk about it being too soon to make such a film, and there is an argument to made for that case. Five years hence and not a day goes by that Americans don't think about the horrors of September 11, 2001.
However, United 93 seems to go out of its way not to take advantage of the event, as the use of non-brand name actors seems to imply.
Forty ordinary people find themselves in an unprecedented situation. Most viewers already know the story through newspaper accounts. To see it relived in the form of a docudrama brings new life to the gripping account.
United 93 DVD extras include a director's commentary, memorial pages and a featurette, "United 93 - The Families and the Film," a 50-minute documentary containing intimate interviews that focus on the families and the actors discussing the emotional challenges of bringing the personalities of the passengers and the flight crew members to life.
