When Do We Eat?
Okay, let's go. Hurry up. If we're going to do a review of the world's fastest
seder we can't waste any time.
Oy, everyone's here for Passover at the Stuckmans, from the grouchy
granddad (Jack Klugman), the frustrated and perfectionistic wife (Lesley Ann
Warren), newly Hassidic son (Max Greenfield), his slothful sibling Zeke
(Ben Feldman), the lesbian daughter (Meredith Scott Lynn) and her lover
(Cynda Williams), and a one-eyed Israeli (Mark Ivanir). No wonder the
head of the Stuckman clan (Michael Lerner), who happens to make his
living selling Christmas ornaments, wants to get this thing over fast.
As you might have surmised by this point, this is not going to be a
typical evening meal at the Cleavers. If there were a platonic paradigm
for the dysfunctional family, it would be based on the Stuckmans. And what
would a seder at the Stuckmans be like without a myriad of tension that doesn't
take long to burst, some quasi-incest and a father tripping on Ecstasy?
When Do We Eat? is not the Jewish version of My Big Fat Greek
Wedding. Alright, it is if you increase the angst 100 times over.
