The Bill Cosby Show: Season One

BILL COSBY PLAYING BASKETBALL

BILL COSBY IN THE ELEVATOR

BILL COSBY BEING BILL COSBY

Before there was Fat Albert, Dr Cliff Huxtable, kids saying the darnedest things, and Leonard, Mr Jell-O Pudding made his comic mark on "The Bill Cosby Show." Coz played Los Angeles PE teacher Chet Kincaid on the eponymously named and, unforunately, often forgotten show. It lasted from 1969 to 1971 and now the first season has just been placed on DVD, all 26 episodes in a four-disc set.

Chet is an everyday kind of guy. Which is significant in itself as this was produced at a time when you didn't see too many Aftrican-Americans on television, let alone African-Americans in the roles of everyday guys.

Though notables like Henry Fonda, Cicely Tyson and Lou Gossett Jr. make appearances, this show is all about Bill Cosby, which is not a bad thing. For Bill Cosby has the extraordinary ability to be both low-key and the center of attention. You never find yourself shouting: "That's enough Cosby for one day."

Cosby also has the creative strength of turning the mundane into the absurdly humorous, as is proved time and again through each episode.

And, let us not forget to mention, that the music of the great Quincy Jones is also included in this set.
