DVD PICK
Apocalypse Now: The Complete Dossier
Freshly out on DVD today is Francis Ford Coppola's 1979 venture into the heart of
darkness. The new release of what many have deemed the
quintessential Vietnam War film comes bearing the title
Apocalypse Now: The Complete Dossier. And what more appropriate
time to be released than during a period when the debate over
the brutality and excesses of war, and the reasons for engaging in war itself, still rage.
Martin Sheen leads an all-star cast as Captain Willard whose assignment
it is to find a renegade American colonel named Kurtz (played by Marlon Brando)
who has given in to the horrors of war and hidden himself in a remote region
of Cambodia.
This two-disc DVD contains both Apocalypse Now and Apocalypse Redux (2001)
and
is complete with special features, including commentary by Francis Ford Coppola, the
lost "Monkey Sampson" scene, the Apocalypse Now A/V club for aspiring
filmmakers, and a dozen never-before-seen segments from the cutting room floor.
Robert Duvall, Laurence Fishburne, Dennis Hopper and Harrison Ford
also star in the film that was nominated for eight Academy Awards.
