On A Clear Day
Ever since Saving Grace, which also starred late-night television's Craig Ferguson, a film with
Brenda Blethyn in it is bound to be winner. Here she plays Joan, wife of Frank Redmond (Peter Mullan
Braveheart, Trainspotting), a 55-year-old Glaswegian who has just found himself discharged from his job.
Feeling adrift, Peter finally comes to the belief he still has some life left in him despite this setback. He sets up a small challenge for himself: to swim across the English Channel. In shoring up the strength to accomplish this goal, he also discovers more about himself, his family, his past and his future..
The film once again showcases the brilliant ability of British cinema in making films with seemingly outrageous storylines effortlessly appear so down to earth.
Oh, and the film is tremendously funny in places.
