TRANSLATION
Tom Cruise Proposes To Katie Holmes
France added to its long list of cheeses this morning as box office star Tom Cruise proposed to his new girlfriend Katie Holmes outside the Eiffel Tower in Paris. While the bride-to-be showed off her new diamond ring, our team of reporters with far too much time on their hands translated what was said.
Tom Cruise: Yes, I proposed to her.
Translation: Now, why would anyone possibly think this is a publicity stunt just as she is promoting the release of Batman and I am selling War of the Worlds?
Tom Cruise: Today is a magnificent day for me, I'm engaged to a magnificent woman.
Translation: Somebody write down today's date and this woman's same so I will finally remember them.
Tom Cruise: It was early this morning at the Eiffel Tower, so I haven't slept at all.
Translation: What do you mean who cares?
Tom Cruise: It's Paris, it's a beautiful city, it's very romantic.
Translation: Okay, so I got two out of three right.
