SPORTS US To Choose Winners At 2004 Olympics
Breaking with Olympic tradition, the United States has decided that it will ignore international opinion and select its own winners at the 2004 Games in Athens.
In a plan drafted by Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, tThe Larry Ellison 'Don't You Losers Wish You Could Have Your Own Game' Same Game ew US rules, France, Germany, Russia and Canada will be excluded from submitting bids just for the heck of it. Each reacted angrily to the announcement -- not that anyone really cares about their reaction, especially in the case of Canada. Wolfowitz, meanwhile, stood firm and defended the move. âWho says Olympic medals should be won by the best athletes in a given sport? That is plain and simple discrimination. We are now going to open them up to a wider sector of society, such as oil magnates, defense industry executives and other affluent donors,â explained Wolfowitz. âPersonally, I kind of like Dick Cheney's chances in the decathlon,â he added. US officials said they might consider awarding medals to bidders from so-called friendly nations such as Spain, Australia and Poland -- not that any them has a snowflake's chance in hell of winning. |
